Liquid Web is an enterprise-grade Web hosting company whose services are designed for individuals and organizations that need more than just shared hosting providers. Liquid Web doesn’t even offer shared hosting.

If you’re running a WooCommerce store, business website, learning management system (LMS), or something that requires dedicated server resources, Liquid Web is one of many hosts offering their services.

The hosting knows that they are good at high-performance hosting and focus on excelling at it. Other service providers in the industry, such as HostGator, try to meet the needs of all users. It means that the end product generally performs well, but the overall experience leaves a lot to be desired.

Liquid Web is a major player in cloud hosting and VPS hosting. If you are looking for the best of the best for your successful (or most promising) web project, it will surely come up in at least one recommendation. So how good is that? Should you trust him with your most important projects?

In this hosting review, I decided to give this premium web hosting solution a try. I’ve gone through pricing review, ease of use, performance monitoring and testing, security overview, and customer support.

One thing is clear; it’s not a cheap option. No sir. It’s expensive, and it targets your business to help you succeed.

It means that more serious analysis than usual is needed.

So I highly recommend having a strong cup of coffee and following this review.

Pros of Liquid Web

  • 100% uptime guarantee
The hosting offers one of the most comprehensive Service Level Agreements (SLAs) we’ve seen, guaranteeing everything from response times and hardware replacement to compensation for downtime. Regarding response times, Liquid Web promises to respond in 59 seconds to phone and chat requests while responding to support tickets in 59 minutes. Additionally, Liquid Web offers a 100% uptime guarantee. If they ever have downtime, they would provide a service credit of 10x the downtime.
  • Expert support is available 24/7
There are over 250 certified Windows, Cisco, and Red Hat Linux technicians on the Liquid Web team, and they provide some of the best Web hosting support we’ve ever tested. It’s a truly managed hosting company, and the team at Liquid Web works like their own. They cover everything from installation, clean software support, operating system updates, patches, proactive response, and event rollback monitoring. Similar to Apple products, hosting just works.
  • HIPAA and PCI Compliant
Liquid Web is one of the few hosting providers that offer HIPPA and PCI compliance. We applaud them for taking consumer data seriously. It was necessary to do this in 2021.
  • Starting at just $299, businesses that electronically process, store, or transmit protected health information (ePHI or PHI) can have a pre-built HIPAA package on Liquid Web that meets HIPAA’s stringent administrative, physical, and technical safeguards, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
  • Liquid Web also offers PCI Compliance Scanning for $50 per month for eCommerce businesses. This service provides quarterly and on-demand PCI scans from an Authorized Scanning Vendor (ASV). Since it’s a fully managed service, the Liquid Web team will help fix (and recheck) if any compliance issues are found.

Cons of Liquid Web

  • Designed for tech-savvy users (not beginners)
Liquid Web is not for beginners. You will notice this when you visit their website. Liquid Web plans are very technical and difficult to understand if you are not familiar with basic server management. While Liquid Web does offer live chat for pre-sales questions, their reps are more knowledgeable about hosting business than helping with the hobby website.
  • However, if you need help with your hobby website, we recommend starting with Bluehost for the cheapest web hosting. InMotion Hosting also offers a DIY website builder called BoldGrid, which you may also find useful. BoldGrid adds drag and drops editing functionality to WordPress.
  • It is not the cheapest hosting provider.
Liquid Web’s great data centers and skilled support team come at a price. Their lowest VPS is $59.99 a month when billed monthly, for example. However, if you click here, we’re partnering with them to help bring the initial cost down to a more manageable rate for your first semester.

If you are looking for the cheapest hosting, we recommend choosing Bluehost. They often offer their initial shared hosting plan for less than $3 per month. However, please note that you will not get enterprise-level support.

Performance: Is Liquid Web fast?

Performance is the main thing you pay for hosting, and Liquid Web quickly proves its value. In all tests, it showed reliable and fast results. Also, the servers are powerful enough to handle large amounts of traffic.

Let’s take a more detailed look at each test.

Smooth web uptime and response time

Uptime is one of the most important performance metrics, and Liquid Web never fails to impress. In just over two weeks, it’s up 100% of the time. The provider is so confident in its capabilities that it has a 100% uptime guarantee backed by the Service Level Agreement. It means that you will be compensated if there is excessive downtime.

Of course, 100% uptime is an aspiration, and the vendor will likely need some time for maintenance or some other reason.

Web Speed

To test Liquid Web’s speed, I first wanted to see how quickly a blank WordPress installation would load from different sites. It makes it a great point of comparison.

The main metric we’re looking for is the largest content fee (LCP). As long as it’s under 2.5 seconds, we’re fine. And Liquid Web is good, with LCP in the US at just 666 milliseconds.
The best result is in the United States, where the server that hosts this site is located. The farther we go, the longer it takes to load. The time in the UK is 912 milliseconds, while it is 2.2 seconds in India.

This result isn’t the best I’ve got, but it’s still very good, as we were able to hit 2.5 seconds.

Also, it is important to understand that we are using a simple server with no application-specific configurations or speed-boosting technology. By the way, since the server instance is completely yours, you can implement any necessary optimizations, such as Cloudflare’s web server software or content delivery network. The latter is free and will combat latency, which can speed up website load times on remote sites.

Security: Is Liquid Web safe?

Liquid Web takes advanced measures to keep its servers safe and secure. However, you will have to take care of some things yourself.

It is what Liquid Web takes care of for you:

Standard DDoS Protection: Provider monitors traffic and protects against sudden attacks.

ServerSecure Standard Security Package: Available by default on all servers, this solution configures the best security settings to protect your website from common threats like malware.

An integrated firewall is available to run from the dashboard. It will act as the first filter to prevent malicious traffic from reaching the server.

While these procedures are advanced and take care of common threats, you must fill in some security holes.

It is what you will have to take care of:

Liquid Web does not automatically install SSL certificates, but free certificates from Let’s Encrypt are available in Control Panel. So don’t forget to create and activate it yourself and update your WordPress URLs from HTTP to HTTPS.

The provider makes the backup copies of the server, but you must take care of its safe storage.

You will need to take care of application security yourself by installing and configuring the web application firewall.

In general, Liquid Web security is comprehensive, but it focuses primarily on the server level. It is server monitoring and threat prevention. Plus, you get free SSL and automatic backups. Meanwhile, the security of the app is your responsibility.

Will Liquid Web customer service help me?

You can reach Liquid Web customer support via live chat, phone, or tickets 24/7. Also, tutorials and documentation are available in the knowledge base.

Liquid Web calls its support agents “the most helpful people in Hosting®.” And yes, they have that brand.

So I decided to check this claim and contacted support several times.

It was my first interaction with the sales agent. I wanted to know what price I would pay after the introductory discount period.

Since they offer free migrations to most users, there’s no reason to try Liquid Web if it’s within your budget.
